Stamped Concrete Patio with Complex Grading – Fort Washington, MD

This project required careful planning and execution due to challenging site conditions, including multiple elevation changes and existing structures. BuildLux designed and installed a custom stamped concrete patio that wraps cleanly around the home and ties directly into the existing deck without disrupting access or drainage.

The goal was to create a usable outdoor space while maintaining proper slope control and visual flow. Every curve, joint, and finish was laid out to match the property’s natural grade and the client’s expectations.

Solving Grade & Drainage Challenges

Working around steep slopes required precise excavation and grading to ensure long-term performance. The patio was shaped to direct water away from the foundation while maintaining a smooth walking surface throughout.

Expansion joints, edges, and transitions were carefully detailed to prevent cracking and preserve the integrity of the slab over time.

Seamless Integration with Existing Deck

Rather than removing or altering the deck, the patio was designed to complement it. Elevations were matched, edges aligned, and access points maintained to create a natural flow between surfaces.

This approach minimized disruption for the homeowner while maximizing usable outdoor space.

Client-Focused Execution

Despite the complexity of the grades and layout, the project was completed efficiently and with close attention to detail. The final result met both functional requirements and aesthetic expectations, leaving the client with a durable, low-maintenance outdoor space built to last.
